Department of Pathology at Children's Hospital of Fudan University was established in 1956 by Professor Zhu Changning, making it the earliest pediatric pathology center in China. Currently, the department serves as a member unit of the National Pediatric Pathology Group, the Pathology Committee of the Second National Health Commission Expert Committee on Pediatric Hematologic Diseases and Malignancies, and the Tumor Pathology Committee of the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association,etc.
The department boasts a highly qualified team, including 2 senior physicians and 4 mid-level physicians, and has trained numerous postgraduate students. It has contributed to the compilation of several medical textbooks and has led or participated in major research projects, earning multiple scientific awards.
The department accepts difficult case consultations across the country and actively supports postgraduate education, standardized residency training, and the instruction of visiting physicians. Many of these visiting physicians have since become core members of their original institutions. The department has published over 40 SCI-indexed papers as corresponding or first authors in international journals, along with more than 10 papers in prestigious Chinese medical journals such as Chinese Journal of Pathology and Chinese Journal of Pediatric Surgery.Our team has been frequently invited to chair sessions, deliver lectures, and present research at major academic conferences, including the National Pathology Annual Meeting, National Pediatric Surgery Annual Meeting, and Shanghai Pathologists' Annual Meeting, where we have received multiple awards for outstanding contributions.
Equipped with advanced instruments such as Leica microtomes, fluorescence microscopes, multi-head microscopes, immunohistochemical stainers, and in situ hybridization systems, the department handles over 25,000 external examinations annually, ranking among the top in China's pediatric pathology field.Current diagnostic services include:Routine surgical pathology diagnosis;Various percutaneous biopsy diagnoses;Exfoliative cytology diagnosis;Renal, liver,and skin biopsy diagnoses;Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).
The department also emphasizes international collaboration, maintaining regular communication and remote consultation mechanisms with institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong. At this new juncture of establishing a National Children's Medical Center, we are confident that our department will scale greater heights!
