The Department of General Surgery of the Children's Hospital of Fudan University is one of the largest pediatric general surgery centers in China. It is also an influential pediatric surgery training base in China. It has been ranked second in the "National Best Hospital and Best Specialty Reputation Ranking" for ten consecutive years. The department is currently the Shanghai Pediatric Surgery Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Difficult and Severe Cases, a "National Clinical Key Specialty Construction" unit for Pediatric Surgery, and a key discipline of Shanghai Pediatric Surgery (top priority).
Currently, the department of pediatric surgery has a full range of surgical specialties, including anorectal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, oncology surgery, neonatal surgery, plastic surgery, and adolescent gynecology. It can diagnose and treat various diseases and has carried out a series of innovative surgeries and treatments across the country, forming its own characteristics:
(1) Integrated treatment of biliary atresia: As the world's largest biliary atresia diagnosis and treatment center, the early diagnosis accuracy of biliary atresia exceeds 95%. It can perform various liver transplants, including donor liver donation, with an overall survival rate of over 90%.
(2) Minimally invasive surgery: The Department of Surgery can currently perform minimally invasive surgery, single-incision minimally invasive surgery, and da Vinci robotic surgery for all types of diseases, including congenital common bile duct cysts, congenital megacolon, various chest and abdominal solid tumors, splenomegaly, intestinal duplication, and Meckel’s diverticulum.
(3) Multidisciplinary standardized treatment of pediatric solid tumors: The Department of Oncology Surgery has an MDT that can perform various complex tumor surgeries, including ossification surgery for neuroblastoma, nephron-sparing surgery for nephroblastoma, minimally invasive surgery for hepatoblastoma, ovarian tumor-sparing minimally invasive treatment, pancreatic tumor, and extended radical resection for soft tissue tumors.
(4) Neonatal Diagnosis, Treatment and Transfer Network: A comprehensive prenatal consultation, postnatal transfer, and treatment network for fetal digestive tract and abdominal structural malformations has been established in Shanghai, and a prenatal consultation and postnatal transfer system has been established with many obstetric departments across the country. Currently, we have formed our own unique diagnosis and treatment model for short bowel syndrome, intestinal failure, and intestinal pseudo-obstruction.
(5) The Pediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Center is at the national leading level in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital craniofacial deformities, such as sequential treatment of cleft lip and palate, personalized comprehensive treatment of craniosynostosis, and non-invasive and surgical plastic surgery of various types of auricular deformities.
